The aim of the Linguist of the Year Awards is to promote the activities of translators and translation organizations that contribute to spreading knowledge concerning linguistic issues and their practical implementation to the benefit of the society. The contest is organized by the Inttranews portal. The prize Linguist of the Year for 2012 was granted to Lydia Callis.

The voters appreciated her work as New York City Mayor's sign language interpreter during hurricane Sandy as well as her work explaining how new signs are being developed that may enhance scientific learning and communication. Lydia Callis donated her cash prize to Handicap International, an international organization specialized in the field of disability. MAGIT was one of the sponsors of the Linguist of the Year 2012 Awards and we donated our contribution to Libraries Without Borders.

The aim of this organization is to improve access to libraries in the developing world.
